Imaging suites are built backwards from the equipment schedule. A radiation physicist's shielding assessment specifies what each wall, door and window must achieve, and the construction has to deliver those build-ups exactly: lead-lined sheeting, filled blockwork or barium plaster depending on the design. Floor loadings, equipment rigging paths and cable trenches are settled with the vendor before the first frame goes up.

Timing
When it's needed
New imaging tenancies, adding a modality to an existing practice, and equipment replacement projects where the new unit's shielding or power needs exceed the old installation. Ultrasound-only expansions are lighter but still carry room-darkening, hand-wash and workflow requirements worth scoping deliberately.
Construction zones inside operating practices are controlled areas. Keep patients and staff clear of hoarded work zones, never remove dust barriers or containment seals, and report any damage to shielding, services or fire separation to the site supervisor immediately.

Fitout construction in NSW must be carried out by appropriately licensed building contractors, with specialist trades (electrical, plumbing, medical gas, air conditioning) holding their own licences, and design and building practitioner registration applying to certain building classes. Ask any provider for their contractor licence details and verify them on the NSW licence check register before engaging.
